Summary

Upgrades cloud/grafana from a compact schema-v1 overview into a schema-v3 deep technical reference centered on Grafana's actual role: querying external data systems, transforming results, rendering dashboards and Explore views, and evaluating/routing alerts.

Changes

  • distinguish Grafana's own relational control-state database from external telemetry data sources
  • explain data-source, panel, visualization, and app plugin boundaries
  • document query execution, variable/macro expansion, transformations, panels, dashboards, Explore, and visualization correctness
  • cover Prometheus integration including PromQL ownership, exemplars, query cost, and backend responsibility
  • add Grafana Alerting evaluation, alert instances, contact points, notification policies, silences/mute timings, and ownership distinctions with data-source-managed rules
  • cover provisioning/as-code ownership, dashboard JSON review, authentication, permissions, service accounts, and data-source credential boundaries
  • add plugin supply-chain/security guidance and verify the current AGPL-3.0 license
  • document HA database topology, backup/recovery, query fan-out, auto-refresh, result-size/browser cost, alert evaluation scaling, and common failure modes
  • add dashboard/alert engineering practices, debugging workflows, anti-patterns, operational checklist, and learning path
  • add Technology Universe coverage metadata and a meaningful typed relationship to Prometheus
  • expand sources to current upstream data-source, dashboard, Explore, alerting, provisioning, permission, plugin, HA, and recovery documentation

Quality bar

The module treats Grafana as an operational query and presentation control plane rather than pretending it owns all observability data. It follows the project's deep-dive standard while preserving edition boundaries between OSS and Enterprise/Cloud functionality.
