MatrixCalc provides a small but useful set of matrix operations with focus on clarity and reliability rather than trying to replace full linear algebra packages. Typical use cases:
- Classroom / teaching examples
- Small scripts or tools that need matrix math but don't want a heavy dependency
- Prototyping linear algebra operations
- Create matrices from arrays, CSV, or simple text format
- Matrix arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply (matrix × matrix and scalar multiplication)
- Element-wise operations (map, apply)
- Transpose and basic shape checks
- Determinant and inverse (for square matrices)
- Row-reduction / reduced row-echelon form (RREF)
- Solve linear systems (Ax = b) using appropriate methods
- Basic decompositions (if implemented in library version: LU, QR)
- Input/output helpers (read/write CSV and plain text)
- Lightweight CLI to perform fast operations from terminal
(Adjust these instructions to match how the project is packaged. Below are common patterns.)
Option A — From source
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Anushka-Gupte/MatrixCalc.git
cd MatrixCalc- Install dependencies (node example):
npm install
# or
yarn install- Build (if there is a build step):
npm run buildOption B — Global CLI (if published or local link)
npm install -g .
# or to use local dev install
npm linkContributions are welcome. Typical workflows:
- Open an issue to discuss a feature or bug before implementing large changes.
- Submit small, focused pull requests with tests and clear descriptions.
- Maintain backward compatibility where reasonable; state breaking changes in PR descriptions.
Please follow the repository's CODE_OF_CONDUCT and CONTRIBUTING guidelines (if present).
Planned/improvement ideas (you may want to update these as your project progresses):
- Add more decompositions (SVD, eigenvalues) if numerical backend is introduced
- Improve CSV/IO options (custom delimiters, comments, headers)
- Add optional multi-threaded/back-end acceleration
- Publish to package registries (npm/PyPI/Rust crates) for easier installation
- Add more examples and notebooks for teaching
- Inspiration from classic linear algebra texts and lightweight matrix libraries
