A portion of the NSF awards listed below has been used to fund the development of Linux XIA:
- CNS-1040800 on August 26th, 2010. Investigator: John Byers (Principal Investigator).
- CNS-1347525 on August 15, 2013. Investigators: Orran Krieger (Principal Investigator), John Byers (Co-Principal Investigator), Sharon Goldberg (Co-Principal Investigator), and Jonathan Appavoo (Co-Principal Investigator).
- CNS-1345307 on May 10th, 2014. Investigator: John Byers (Principal Investigator).
The Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is an international annual program in which Google awards stipends to all students who successfully complete a requested free and open-source software coding project during the summer.
The participation of Linux XIA in GSoC is summarized below.
Our Google Summer of Code organization, Boston University / XIA, received 34 proposals from over 12 countries (there were a few proposals we could not identify the country), of which two proposals were withdrawn by the students. Google allocated three slots to our organization. Each proposal was evaluated by two of our mentors, and the top proposals received a third mentor evaluation. Our selected mentees were André Ferreira Eleuterio (Brazil), Aryaman Gupta (India), and Pranav Goswami (India). Google featured our experience in Google Summer of Code 2015 on their open source blog. Our Google Summer of Code organization, Boston University / XIA, received 31 proposals from 8 countries, of which four proposals were not complete. Google allocated two slots to our organization. Each complete proposal was evaluated by two of our mentors, and the top proposals received a third mentor evaluation. Our select students were Sachin Paryani (India) and Vaibhav Raj Gupta (India). Our Google Summer of Code organization, Boston University / XIA, received 28 proposals from 8 countries. Our select students were Nishanth Devarajan (India) and Saurav Kumar (India).
Our Google Summer of Code organization, Boston University / XIA, received 16 proposals from 6 countries. Our students that successfully completed their projects were Daivik Dave (India), Hrishav Mukherjee (India), Prashant Prajapati (India), Vibhav Pant (India).
Digirati, a Brazilian Internet company based in Rio de Janeiro, donated funds to Boston University under the supervision of Professor John W. Byers in May 2016. The gift has funded the Ph.D. students Cody Doucette and Qiaobin Fu to work, during the Summer of 2016, on Gatekeeper, an extension of Linux XIA to address (distributed) denial of service attacks in XIA and IP networks.
Digirati donated funds to Boston University under the supervision of Professor John W. Byers in June 2017. The gift has funded the Ph.D. student Cody Doucette to work, during the Summer and Fall of 2017, on Gatekeeper.
