Description
🎯 Goal
Build a clean, user-friendly interactive web interface for the phishing-spam-detector project using Streamlit.
📌 Background
We recently added the Phishing and Spam Message Classifier starter script. Currently, students run it via CLI in train_and_predict.py. Adding an interactive Streamlit UI will allow students to demonstrate the project easily in presentations, portfolios, and hackathons!
📋 Scope and Requirements
- Target File: Create
beginner/phishing-spam-detector/app.py. - UI Elements:
- App title, banner, and subtitle: "SMS and Email Spam / Phishing Detector".
- Multiline
st.text_areafor pasting any message or email text. - Quick sample buttons (e.g. "Test Scam Alert", "Test College Club Message").
- "Analyze Message" button triggering classification.
- Clear visual feedback with
st.success(Ham) orst.error/st.warning(Phishing). - Display probability confidence score using
st.progressorst.metric.
- Dependencies: Add
streamlittobeginner/phishing-spam-detector/requirements.txt. - Documentation: Update
beginner/phishing-spam-detector/README.mdwith instructions on how to runstreamlit run app.py.
💡 Tips for Students
- Check how importing
load_datasetandpreprocess_textcan be cached with@st.cache_resourceto avoid retraining on every keystroke. - Keep the UI responsive and clean.
