Summary

  • A Kiro MCP registration without a Kiro CLI is deliberately left pending (manual_activation_required, only the managed package directory receipt recorded). activeNativeDelivery treated that stable pending state as an incomplete projection, so every no-change update registered a native activation attempt, cleared it again, and reported mutated=true with rewritten state — breaking the update-twice idempotency contract and failing the catalog publication gate (update changed package at atlassian:validate_update on Linux).
  • Treat an incomplete native projection as settled when the binding is manual_activation_required, has no unresolved attempt or pending intent, and the activator classifies the exact request as non-automatic (it cannot act): verify the recorded objects read-only instead of churning an attempt, and report no_change=true, mutated=false with state bytes unchanged.
  • A later request the adapter CAN act on (user installed the Kiro CLI) keeps the projection incomplete, so registration completes then and correctly reports the mutation. Prepare-intent bindings (Activation=prepared) are excluded, so their incomplete projections are still repaired.

Verification

  • New discriminating unit test TestKiroMCPManualActivationNoChangeUpdateIsNoOp (Kiro MCP package, no Kiro CLI, add → identical no-change update): FAILS on unfixed code exactly as CI did (Mutated:true NoChange:false, NativeEffect:unchanged, state rewritten), PASSES with the fix — including an exact state-file byte-equality assertion.
  • Full E2E discriminating pair on the catalog publication lifecycle harness (identical package/feed, identical harness, CI-like scrubbed PATH with kiro-cli hidden): unfixed 0.1.88 binary reproduces lifecycle:atlassian:validate_update "update changed package"; fixed binary completes run_lifecycle: COMPLETE OK (phase: lifecycle:atlassian:complete) — includes validate_update (no_change=true, mutated=false) and snapshot_after_update (state bytes and artifacts unchanged).
  • go test ./install/integrationctl/agentplugins/... green (run with canonical TMPDIR; the macOS /var → /private/var TMPDIR symlink is a pre-existing local flake in gemini/cursorhooks/env-dependent tests, unrelated to this diff and unchanged by it).

Release Impact

  • Needs a agentplugins-v0.1.89 release (tag → draft → promote) and a registry CLI-pin bump: the catalog publication gate runs the released binary per pin, and the currently pinned 0.1.88 fails atlassian:validate_update on Linux. Per-pin contracts must be re-derived against the 0.1.89 add output when the pin moves.

Review follow-up (b3ca466)

Two parallel reviews found three gaps in 984ff79; all fixed here with discriminating tests (each fails on the pre-fix shape at its exact assertion):

  • Classifier fidelity: the settled guard now classifies the exact request the acting adapter receives (Delivery = desired delivery, PreviousNativeObjects = recorded). Windsurf gates on Delivery.NativeObjects and OpenCode's final-removal clause on PreviousNativeObjects, so the truncated request would have frozen those bindings forever. Covered by TestManualRegistrationSettledClassifiesTheActingRequest (Windsurf and OpenCode cases).
  • Single-target update parity: installer's one-compatibility-check update path routes through service.Update → resume, where verifiedRegistrationUnchanged demanded Active/Installed and reported no_change=false for pending manual registrations (Kiro MCP and non-native ChatGPT/Cursor alike). activeNativeDelivery now returns a settled verdict and resume treats it as unchanged. Covered by TestKiroMCPManualActivationNoChangeSingleTargetUpdateIsNoOp and TestChatGPTManualNoChangeSingleTargetUpdateIsNoOp, both with state byte-equality.
  • The replace branch of no-change resume now refuses registration migrations, matching the non-replace branch.
  • The group test now also asserts verification != installed and the kept "install a current Kiro CLI" user action.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved lifecycle handling for integrations requiring manual activation when automatic activation is unavailable.
    • Repeated identical updates now correctly report that no changes are needed.
    • Manual activation status and existing configuration are preserved across repeated updates.
    • Prevented unnecessary rewrites of saved installation state during no-op updates.
    • Native integrations are correctly recognized as complete or settled based on activation status.
    • Registration migrations continue to be processed instead of being incorrectly treated as unchanged.
    • Installation results now distinguish between unchanged, fully installed, and still-pending states.

CI regression follow-up (2ef6b53)

  • test-core caught a collateral regression from the settled no-change path: TestRepeatedAddResumesManualLifecycleWithoutAnotherReceipt (cli/internal/agentpluginscli) — a repeated add on a pending manual lifecycle must keep printing the single "Next:" resume step and must not claim "Already installed and lifecycle verification is complete".
  • Fix: add printer footer is now gated on fullyInstalled; pending manual lifecycles fall through to the existing "Next:" guidance (footer text was pinned by no test). Discriminating pair: this test fails at b3ca466 (CI run 39618518813, test-core) and passes at 2ef6b53 locally (full cli/internal/agentpluginscli + cmd/agentplugins suite green).
  • Lint follow-up (b72ff04): extracted desiredNativeObjects so activeNativeDelivery stays under funlen/gocyclo, and dropped constant-only params from kiroMCPInput (unparam). golangci-lint --new-from-merge-base clean for agentplugins and cli packages.

Toolchain bump (cbaaabb) — Release Impact addition

  • GO-2026-6809 (crypto/x509 distrust of compromised intermediates) was published 2026-10-21T00:27Z and affects every Go stdlib before 1.26.10; the release gate requires all six govulncheck jobs green on the merge commit and the PR head.
  • Repo-wide Go pin 1.26.9 -> 1.26.10 (same-line patch): go.mod/go.work toolchains, workflow setup-go pins (incl. agentplugins-release.yml), build-manifest go_version contracts, GOVERSION assertions, docs. No go directive or dependency changes.
  • Discriminating pair: govulncheck (root) fails at 2ef6b53 with GO-2026-6809 (Found in crypto/x509@go1.26.9/1.27.2, fixed in 1.26.10) and passes at cbaaabb under the 1.26.10 toolchain ("No vulnerabilities found."). Go workflow-contract tests (cli/cmd/agentplugins) green; python/npm pin-contract tests identical to pre-bump baseline modulo timing (their remaining failures are pre-existing macOS-environment noise, also present at baseline).

…ions read-only

A Kiro MCP registration without a Kiro CLI is deliberately left pending
(manual_activation_required, only the managed package receipt recorded).
activeNativeDelivery treated that stable pending state as an incomplete
projection, so every no-change update registered a native attempt, cleared
it again, and reported mutated=true with rewritten state. This broke the
update-twice idempotency contract and the catalog publication gate
("update changed package" at atlassian:validate_update on Linux).

Treat an incomplete projection as settled when the binding is
manual_activation_required, has no unresolved attempt, and the activator
reports it cannot act automatically on this exact request: verify the
recorded objects read-only instead. A later request the adapter can act on
(user installed the Kiro CLI) keeps the projection incomplete, so
registration completes then and correctly reports the mutation.

📝 Walkthrough

The native delivery flow now distinguishes complete and settled manual registrations. Update and resume paths use this status to preserve no-change behavior. Tests cover Kiro MCP, ChatGPT, Windsurf, and OpenCode registration cases.

Changes: Manual registration lifecycle

Review follow-up to the pending-manual no-op fix. The settled guard now
classifies the exact request the acting adapter would receive (desired
delivery plus recorded prior objects), so adapters that gate on those
fields -- Windsurf on Delivery, OpenCode on PreviousNativeObjects -- are
never frozen by a misclassified guard. The non-native branch settles the
same way, so single-target updates of pending manual registrations
(ChatGPT remote, Cursor) report no_change instead of a phantom change,
and the resume path treats a settled projection as unchanged alongside
the verified-registration check. The replace branch of no-change resume
now also refuses registration migrations.

Comment thread install/integrationctl/agentplugins/usecase/native_projection.go
Keeps activeNativeDelivery under the funlen/gocyclo limits and drops the
constant-only parameters from the kiro MCP test helper (unparam).
A settled manual registration is now a no-change outcome, but the add
printer claimed lifecycle verification was complete and dropped the
"Next:" resume step whenever Activation was not fully installed. Limit
that footer to fully installed lifecycles so a repeated add keeps
resuming the manual onboarding without creating another receipt.
The crypto/x509 advisory published 2026-10-21 affects every stdlib
before 1.26.10 (and 1.27.x before 1.27.3). All six govulncheck jobs are
required by the release gate, so the repo-wide 1.26.9 pin moves to the
same-line fix 1.26.10: go.mod/go.work toolchains, workflow setup-go
pins, build-manifest go_version contracts, and the docs that state the
required version.
The pin lives in a regex literal (/ go1\.26\.9 /) so the repo-wide
1.26.9 -> 1.26.10 replace missed it, and docs-check failed asserting
the runner's go version. Align it with the bumped toolchain.
