A cloud scrape asked for the display format, so a following --diff-with, --summarize, --extract-json or --extract-prompt received a response without the structured result those steps consume. Cloud scrapes now request JSON whenever one of them is queued; plain scrapes keep their display format.

WEBCLAW_API_URL also now applies to CloudClient::with_key, so a key supplied directly no longer pins the client to the default base (part of #122).

Version bumped to 0.6.24 with a CHANGELOG entry. cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy --all and cargo test --workspace (801 tests) pass locally on arm64. A release publish is NOT part of this PR: the full two-architecture matrix still has to run before 0.6.24 ships.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Fixed cloud scraping with diffs, summaries, and structured extraction so requested processing completes reliably.
    • Cloud requests now return the structured data required by advanced output options.
    • WEBCLAW_API_URL now works when an API key is provided directly, allowing CLI and MCP connections to use custom endpoints.
    • Custom API URLs are normalized automatically, including trailing slashes.
  • Chores

    • Updated the release version to 0.6.24 across supported packages and integrations.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The release updates cloud response format selection for diff and LLM operations. It also applies WEBCLAW_API_URL when clients receive a key directly, updates tests, and bumps the workspace version to 0.6.24.

Changes

Cloud API fixes

Layer / File(s) Summary
Structured cloud request selection
crates/webclaw-cli/src/main.rs, CHANGELOG.md
The CLI centralizes cloud format selection. Diff and LLM operations request json; other formats retain their existing mappings. Tests cover these cases, and the changelog records the fix.
API base URL override
crates/webclaw-fetch/src/cloud.rs, Cargo.toml
CloudClient::with_key uses a non-empty WEBCLAW_API_URL value and normalizes its trailing slash. Tests verify the override, and the workspace version changes to 0.6.24.

🌐 Web query:

reqwest 0.12.28 url 2.5.8 parse URL leading trailing whitespace behavior

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
In the url crate (version 2.5.8), which reqwest (version 0.12.28) uses for URL parsing, leading and trailing C0 control characters and spaces are automatically stripped during the parsing process [1][2][3]. According to the WHATWG URL Standard—which the Rust url crate implements—the URL parser removes any leading and trailing C0 control or space characters from the input string [3]. The crate's internal Input::new_trim_c0_control_and_space method performs this normalization [1][4]. While this removal is standard behavior, the parser classifies the presence of such leading or trailing characters as a non-fatal "SyntaxViolation" (specifically C0SpaceIgnored) [1][5]. This means that while the parser successfully handles the input by trimming it, it technically deviates from strict, error-free syntax [1][5]. In summary, if you pass a string with leading or trailing whitespace to Url::parse, the url crate will trim it and return a valid Url object rather than an error [1][4].

url crate 2.5.8 Url::parse internal space path percent encode or error

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
In the Rust url crate (including version 2.5.8), Url::parse handles spaces in a URL path by automatically percent-encoding them [1][2]. This behavior is intentional and conforms to the WHATWG URL Standard, which the url crate implements [3][1]. If you pass a string containing a space to Url::parse, the space character will be encoded as %20 in the resulting Url object [1][2]. For example, Url::parse("https://example.com/a b") will result in a path represented as /a%20b [1][2]. There is no "internal space path percent encode error" inherent in Url::parse. If you are encountering an error, it is likely due to one of the following: 1. Invalid Input: The string provided to Url::parse may contain other characters that are not permitted in a URL or violates the structure of an absolute URL [4][5]. Url::parse requires an absolute URL; if you provide a relative path, it will return a ParseError::RelativeUrlWithoutBase [5][6]. 2. Misinterpretation of the Output: If you are expecting the original string with literal spaces when calling methods like path() or as_str(), note that these methods return the percent-encoded version of the URL to ensure it remains a valid URL [4][1]. If you need to construct a URL from components that contain spaces, it is recommended to use Url::parse for the base and then manipulate the path using set_path or join, which also handle necessary percent-encoding automatically [1][7]. If you have a specific error message you are receiving, it is not a documented limitation of the crate's handling of spaces.

See serde documentation for more information. ```toml url = { version = "2", features = ["serde"] } ``` ## § Feature: `debugger_visualizer` If you enable the `debugger_visualizer` feature, the `url` crate will include a natvis file for Visual Studio that allows you to view `Url` objects in the debugger. This feature requires Rust 1.71 or later. ```toml url = { version = "2", features = ["debugger_visualizer"] } ``` ## Re-exports§ `pub use form_urlencoded;` ## Structs§ Opaque Origin : Opaque identifier for URLs that have file or other schemes Parse Options : Full configuration for the URL parser. Trim the configured API URL before storing it.

When WEBCLAW_API_URL has surrounding whitespace, with_key_and_base retains it because it removes only trailing /. post and get then place the trailing space inside the request path. The url 2.5.8 parser percent-encodes that space, so a request can target /v1/%20/scrape instead of /v1/scrape.

Proposed fix
         let base = std::env::var("WEBCLAW_API_URL")
