Zoom/pan logic needs improvement

In the current implementation, the more a user zooms in, the slower the panning becomes. zooming in to see fine details makes navigation nearly impossible because a full-screen finger swipe only moves the image a tiny fraction of its total width. Navigation should feel snappy and consistent regardless of the zoom level.
