We already have an explanation in the README.md

It should list:

  1. a non-technical explanation for what the project is (it's a website for all our data research and journalism)
  2. link our to the technical explanation (the README.md of this repo)
  3. explain how to contribute (link to CONTRIBUTING.md)
  4. show some "greatest hits" articles with the best visualization from the article
