Problem installing the deb version on Linux Mint (LMDE)

I am trying to install the deb version on LMDE (based on Debian 13), but it says "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libjpeg8 (>= 8c)" and I cannot find in the Debian repository that library.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks for reporting this — this looks like a classic Ubuntu vs Debian packaging mismatch, not an LMDE‑specific bug. GLE is built on Ubuntu latest which uses libjpeg8, Debian uses libjpeg‑turbo instead. The easy solution is to rebuild GLE from source on your Debian machine. This is what I have done. Github does not provide Debain runners - only Ubuntu sadly.

You should not need curses unless you are building manip. So you need to do

sudo apt install libncurses-dev.

I think the latest release BUILD_MANIP is ON by default. I turned it off after the release to avoid this issue and others. you can specify

-DBUILD_MANIP=OFF

on the initial cmake call and it should build fine without installing ncurses.

I installed libncurses-dev, and then I had to install also libtiff-dev. Finally, I got the following warning:

That warning should not appear. Are these packages installed?

Ops! No, actually some of them were missing. Now it works perfectly.

When I installed the necessary packages I got a warning essentially saying that libjpeg-turbo8-dev was not available. I installed libjpeg62-turbo and libjpeg62-turbo-dev instead of that missing package, and everything seemed to work (although not perfectly), but it did not notice that the warning prevented the installation of other packages.

Maybe you may mention that libjpeg-turbo8-dev could be missing in some cases (and suggest alternative packages) in the building instructions in the GitHub web page.

By the way, I also got that "libcairo2-dev is used instead of libcairo-dev" and "zlib1g-dev is used instead of libz-dev".
