Suggestion: Default extension for saving files

Hello Simon! I've just found Quick Camera and it's really helped my workflow. I have a couple of suggestions; I know your bandwidth is low on this app and I appreciate that you've open-sourced the code, but my programming skill level is virtually non-existent so I'll pop these in for your consideration. This one is hopefully fairly minor...

When I "Save" a shot (Command-S) it lets me type in a file name, but I have to type it in with the ".png" extension. If it could default that (so that when I type in a new name, it only changes the "Name" of the file, not the extension" that would save a few keystrokes.

Hi Sean - thanks for reporting this. I've just tried this on my machine and it appears to work. I open Quick Camera, hit Command-S, and type "Hello" - the .png part of the file name is preserved and I don't need to retype it. Are you seeing something different on your machine? I'm using Ventura 13.4.1.

Hi Simon - yes, it’s not keeping the extension for me. It just saves as a file with no extension, and of course Preview doesn’t recognize it when i double-click on it. I was on macOS 13.4.1 and still happening on 13.5. Okay, this setting changes it - ticking this “Show all filename extensions” box in Finder > Settings > General, it works like you are seeing. With it un-ticked, it works like I’m seeing. Good enough for me, I’ll leave it ticked!  Seán Franklin ***@***.***
