to_json() can't serialize due to datetime

I've run into problems with serializing datetime before. I wonder if this is something that I'm doing wrong, or if it's just a common friction point. Thanks for letting me know about the error. I'll get this fixed.

Did that work for you @crawld? I added a test here that specifically tests the datetime serialization to json.
