Better error handling when saving fails

After install, Fairscan defaulted to the Downloads folder but didn't have permission to save there. I didn't notice when saving failed. It would be great if it would check permission and if not granted, explicitly ask the user to grant permission or pick another folder. Maybe color red instead of the default green would catch more attention. Thanks!

I'd like to better understand the problem you faced as it's definitely not the intended behavior.
Which Android version do you use?

• on Android 10+, no permission should be required to write in the Downloads folder.
• On Android 8 and 9, FairScan is supposed to ask the permission just before saving a file.

I am using a Fairphone 5 with Android 15.

I can't reproduce the issue any more after resetting all permissions.

Although related, when I try to manually pick the Download folder, it shows me an error that I can't pick this folder:

Thanks for this information.

• Do you see anything in FairScan's logs? ("About" menu -> "Copy logs ")
• I'm not sure which permissions were reset. Maybe you have to uninstall the app and reinstall it if you want to reproduce what you saw.
• The message you see when picking the Download folder is raised by Android's "Storage access framework": I think it's common to all recent Android versions and there's nothing the app can do about it. You may tap "Reset to default" in FairScan's settings screen.
