Register "Open with" handler for images

It's great that FairScan supports scanning existing images. It would be great if it would register itself as share handler such that one can for example "share" an image from WhatsApp directly with FairScan to crop, recognize text and export as PDF.

I did think about this, but I'm reluctant to add it for now.

I spent a lot of time optimizing document detection for photos captured directly in FairScan. Importing existing images was added as a secondary use case. Based on the feedback I've received, document detection doesn't seem to work as well with imported images, mainly because those images weren't framed using the live detection feedback that FairScan provides during capture.

I'm concerned that making image import available directly from the system share menu could increase user frustration instead of improving the experience.

I agree that taking a picture directly with the app is preferred. But there are situations where this is not possible, for example when someone sends you a document being physically present only in a far distance. Or one which was present in the past and has been physically destroyed in the meantime.

Since the feature exists to use an existing photo, it would be great to make this existing feature more accessible.

Additionally, it would also increase privacy as the document never has to exist in the shared storage space but can be limited to app controlled ephemeral or encrypted storage. Imagine one receives a document via secure messenger Signal, share to FairScan and then share to upload to one's personal cloud server. The image would never hit unencrypted and largely accessible Android storage.
