Today t-junction fixes are required on certain edges to get the chamfer effect, however t-junction fixups can be problematic.
It would be interesting to introduce virtual edges that connect adjacent "open edges" and allow to create chamfer edge. The opposing open triangles would be pushed back and the side with more triangles would be extended.
