Add a WYSIWYG Focus Mode Inspired by Typora and MarkText #220

Description

@petertzy

Background

Typora and MarkText are popular because they provide a clean WYSIWYG Markdown writing experience. Markdown syntax fades into a polished document-like editor, which makes long-form writing feel less distracting than a traditional split-pane editor.

Proposal

Add a WYSIWYG “Focus Mode” editor to Markdown Reader while preserving the underlying Markdown file format.

Expected Outcome

Users should be able to switch between the current split-pane editor and a cleaner writing mode where Markdown syntax is visually rendered inline.

Suggested Implementation

Evaluate editor frameworks suitable for the current Next.js frontend, such as:

  • Tiptap
  • Milkdown
  • ProseMirror

The mode should support common Markdown structures:

  • Headings
  • Lists
  • Links
  • Images
  • Code blocks
  • Tables
  • Blockquotes

Value

This would help Markdown Reader compete directly with Typora and MarkText while remaining open-source and AI-enabled.
