Feature Request: Reorder Tasks

It would be great to reorder tasks directly in the UI instead of editing task.json manually.

Suggested improvements:

• Support drag-and-drop to change task order.
• Automatically persist the updated order.

This would make managing larger task lists more convenient and reduce manual JSON edits.

Task Cockpit intentionally mirrors the order from your task file — what you define is what you see. This is a core design choice: the extension reads your configuration but never modifies it.

For now, the recommended approach is to reorder tasks directly in the file. The Jump to definition action (right-click → Edit Task) selects the entire task definition in the editor — so reordering is as simple as: go to task → cut → go to another task → paste before or after → save. Pretty simple — and unlikely to be a frequent need.

That said, I can see the convenience factor for large task files. I'll keep this in mind as the extension evolves. But keep in mind — reordering from the UI would mean modifying tasks.json under the hood. Combined with features like splitting task labels into hierarchical segments, this would almost certainly lead to bugs.

I'll think about it. For now I can't say yes or no — leaving this open for consideration.

The design choice makes sense. I understand and agree with keeping the extension read-only with respect to tasks.json.
