Gem5 Optical Extensions

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to Gem5 and read a thesis published a while back about optical extensions in Gem5: https://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/id/eprint/10046387/1/Van%20Laer_10046387_thesis.Redacted.pdf

However, I'm not sure where to find these optical extensions and was wondering if they were ever published or if I can receive any guidance on implementing them.
