Feature request:
Please add a setting in the macOS Open WebUI Desktop app to hide or disable the menu bar icon.
Problem:
Open WebUI Desktop currently places an icon in the macOS menu bar. Some users prefer to keep the menu bar clean and access Open WebUI from the Dock, Spotlight/launcher, browser, or direct URL instead.
Suggested behavior:
Add a setting such as:
“Show Open WebUI in menu bar” — On/Off
Expected behavior:
- Default remains On, preserving current behavior.
- When disabled, the macOS menu bar icon is removed.
- The app should still be usable from the Dock/app window.
- This should not affect the web UI, server, local model features, or background service behavior.
Why this matters:
The macOS menu bar gets cluttered quickly when running many local AI, sync, VPN, Docker, and server tools. Since the Open WebUI menu bar icon is not always needed, it should be optional.
Environment:
- OS: Tahoe 26.5
- Open WebUI Desktop version: 0.0.20
- Install method: .dmg
- Device: Apple Silicon
