Diff lines doesn't show empty lines added or removed

When empty/blank lines are added or removed anywhere in the diff, diff_lines doesn't really make this visible in any way. This is probably best addressed by applying the coloring to the line numbers. Or else add an option to show a +/- line prefix.

Also a difference in trailing newlines is not visible but I'm not sure if this is a separate problem or not.

I'm dealing with the same issue, would adding a single space and highlighting it be the way to handle this?

Oof yea. Empty lines getting a +- in front sounds good to me
