What happened?
I was expecting a stress free way to install and enjoy windows 98 and ME and have a good blast from the past with all the drivers I need ready to be set up thanks to the extended driver library but I just couldn’t get past the windows 98/ME loading screen. One thing I also noticed is the no matter how many times I downloaded the USB .img file windows on my main laptop would say the file is corrupt and I wonder if that may have anything to do with this issue the .iso’s also give me kernel problems in the SYSLINUX system.
Linux dmesg output
On the .iso files I use I get this error in the Linux system Could not find kernel image: menu.c32.
I have now problems with this.
Target Motherboard, CPU and RAM
I have 8gb RAM and I don’t know what my motherboard is but the laptop I am trying to install on is the DELL Inspiron 3537
Target GPU and Sound card(s)
I use the integrated GPU in my 4th generation Intel Core i5. While I don’t know my exact sound card It’s the one inside my DELL Inspiron 3537.
Target Storage Devices
I used my 240GB Kingston SSD.
Boot method
USB key
Reference image
I don’t have any at the moment.
Additional context
I was very excited about Quickinstall when I first heard of it and during the actual install phase everything runs perfectly but when I try and boot the thing nothing happens I have tried every trouble shooting method I just can’t get my laptop to run 98 or ME. When I run the full version of 98 it gives me an error about a vmm32 and how it can’t access the file. When I try ME either nothing happens and it just loads forever or it gives me a system halted message because it can’t load a file called KRNL356. When I try 98 Micro it just continues to load but never boots. I think a way to fix this is to add an issue detector that can check for problems with the image you use and a trouble shooting system built in to 98 or ME so if I get an error or issue after the install phase it can help me fix it (if possible). Not to take away any of the amazing achievements you have earned making such an amazing system I just really need help getting it to work on my machine.
