Would be nice to not be mastodon-specific, but any ActivityPub platform: Plume, Lemmy, and maybe even FunkWhale, PixelFed, PeerTube, or Mobilizon for the right content.

Then separate from ActivityPub, there's also Matrix too!

+1 it would be cool if there's Friendica too, but sadly, the project was unmaintained

Mastodon recently released an official solution https://github.com/mastodon/share, saying "Of course, we’ve also made the code available and open source, the same as the rest of Mastodon’s code. That means you can check how it works, and even host a share page of your own (you don’t need to host anything, but you can, if you don’t want to use the version that we’re hosting - it’s your choice)." ¹
