When configuring a repeater, I suggest a required config option for the country.
After flashing, a repeater has to be configured (i.E. lora narrow, and other details like name, position, password). I recommend 15min after boot to do so, and also configure 'set country=' (i.E. EU) before it activates repeating.
country EU should automaticaly configure airtime to 10% according to the regulations.
Icargue many of new repeater owners don't know these regulations, and this strategy helps them avoiding problems.
An other point is the allowed power.
If we look at wifi hardware like those from mikrotik, their default is the config menu ,antenna gain'.
Mikrotik allows setting tx power to the maximum of allowed-eirp minus antenna gain. This helps nonprofessional users to easily being conform to law.
In germany, in the 250 kHz frequency segment we use, the max txpwr is 27 dBm ERP. If user knows he has has an antenna with 6 dB gain and configures this, the firmware can calculate and automatically reduce the txpwr to max 21 dBm pep.
