These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Weft, a desktop application developed by Loggerhead Instruments ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Weft, you agree to these Terms.
Weft is currently provided as a free beta. During the beta period:
- All features are available at no cost
- The software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind
- Features, APIs, and data formats may change without notice
- We may end the beta period or introduce paid tiers at any time with reasonable notice
- We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes via the app or email
You must create an account to use Weft. You agree to:
- Provide accurate registration information
- Keep your account credentials secure
- Not share your account with others
- Notify us if you suspect unauthorized use of your account
You may use Weft for any lawful purpose, including personal, academic, and commercial use, except that the built-in HaikuNet model is licensed for non-commercial use only (see Section 7). You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except as permitted by law
- Attempt to circumvent any access controls or usage limitations
- Use the application to process data you do not have the right to use
- Redistribute the application or any part of it without permission
You retain full ownership of all data you create, import, or process with Weft, including audio recordings, trained models, detection results, and analysis projects. We claim no rights to your data.
Weft is a local-first application. Your project data is stored on your machine and is not uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for details on what information we do collect.
You are responsible for backing up your data. We are not liable for data loss resulting from hardware failure, software bugs, or accidental deletion.
Weft integrates with third-party services including Haikubox, Visual Crossing, NOAA, Anthropic, and Supabase. Your use of these services through Weft is subject to their respective terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or terms of third-party services.
If you connect a Haikubox account to Weft:
- You are responsible for your Haikubox API key and any actions taken with it
- Data retrieved from Haikubox is subject to Haikubox's terms of service
- We do not store or transmit your Haikubox API key to our servers
Weft includes two pre-trained bird sound classifiers. Your own models, and the data you process with any model, remain yours (Section 4.1); the built-in models do not.
HaikuNet is developed and owned by Loggerhead Instruments and is licensed to you for non-commercial use only, inside Weft. You may use HaikuNet for personal, educational, academic and non-profit research purposes. You may not:
- Use HaikuNet for any commercial purpose, including in a product, service, or paid consulting work, without a separate written license from us
- Include HaikuNet in any hardware device, firmware, cloud or web service, or software other than Weft
- Extract, copy, redistribute, modify, or reverse engineer the HaikuNet model files or weights

BirdNET+ V3.0 (preview) is provided by the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Chemnitz University of Technology, and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). Your use of BirdNET and its output is subject to that license, including its attribution requirement, which Weft shows alongside BirdNET results.
Species identifications and other output from the built-in models, and from community models, are automated predictions. They can be wrong, and they vary with recording conditions, equipment, location, and season. We make no guarantee of their accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose. Verify identifications before relying on them for research conclusions, regulatory compliance, conservation or management decisions, or any other purpose where an error would matter.
Weft and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Loggerhead Instruments and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The Weft name and logo are trademarks of Loggerhead Instruments.
Models you train and data you process with Weft belong to you (see Section 4.1). The built-in HaikuNet model is ours and is licensed, not sold, to you (see Section 7.1).
WEFT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:
- THE APPLICATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE
- RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE APPLICATION WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE
- TRAINED MODELS WILL PERFORM TO ANY PARTICULAR STANDARD
- DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED
WEFT RELIES ON THIRD-PARTY OPEN-SOURCE LIBRARIES AND PACKAGES. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY ERRORS, BUGS, INCOMPATIBILITIES, OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM THESE THIRD-PARTY DEPENDENCIES. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOFTWARE MAY CONTAIN DEFECTS AND THAT USE OF THE APPLICATION FOR CRITICAL DECISION-MAKING IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LOGGERHEAD INSTRUMENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF WEFT.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF WEFT SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE (CURRENTLY $0 DURING THE FREE BETA).
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Loggerhead Instruments from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of Weft or violation of these Terms.
We may suspend or terminate your access to Weft at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason with reasonable notice. Upon termination, your right to use the application ceases, but your local data remains on your machine.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted to this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Weft after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
