Unfocused tab text color is unreadable

If you have 'set go-=T', the tab text of unfocused tabs has the same color as the tab background.

also, the comments are also unreadable, as they have a similar color as the background

You shouldn't use color indexes below 16: otherwise you're referencing your own terminal colors.
