Network Usage on Task Manager Doesn't Show Mbps Count

It's been 24 hours since the first time I used this app and activated everything in the privacy section. Could one of the consequences be that the Mbps count in the Network Usage section of Task Manager has become unreadable?

Hi there,

I've investigated the issue and found the likely root cause. If you applied the "Disable Telemetry" tweak, it may have disabled DusmSvc (Data Usage Service), which Task Manager relies on to display network traffic information.

Note

This issue only affects Windows network usage statistics and monitoring features. It does not impact actual network connectivity, performance, or system stability.

You can restore the service by opening Command Prompt as Administrator and running:

sc config DusmSvc start= auto
sc start DusmSvc

Important

You may need to restart your PC before the network statistics appear correctly again in Task Manager.

I'll update optimizerDuck in a future release to remove or separate this service from the Disable Telemetry preset to prevent this issue from occurring.

If the problem persists after running the commands above, please share your log file located at:

%localappdata%\optimizerDuck\optimizerDuck.log

so I can investigate further.

Hello,

I've been following your suggestions, but the network usage still isn't showing up after restarting. Next, I tried unchecking the 'disable telemetry' option in optimizerDuck and still nothing after restart. I also tried enabling the 'Ndu' service via cmd and regedit, but the network usage still doesn't show. My last option is to reset my network settings, but I'm not doing that now because I still need my current network settings.

I actually had this same issue back in 2020 after a Windows update, but I can't remember how I fixed it. So my problem now: maybe it's a problem with my system, or maybe it's caused by optimizerDuck. Here's my log

Thank you for the detailed update and for sharing the log file.

After reviewing your report again, I think I may have focused on the wrong symptom initially.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing: when you say "Network Usage" is not showing, do you mean that the Network column in the Processes tab is missing entirely, or that it is present but always displays 0 Mbps for every process?

If the column itself is missing, please try right-clicking the column header area in Task Manager and make sure Network is enabled.

If the column is visible but always shows 0 Mbps, that's actually something I've found reported by many Windows 10 users, including systems that have never used optimizerDuck. In those cases, Task Manager's per-process network statistics appear to stop updating correctly, while actual network connectivity continues to work normally.

You can verify this by checking:

• Task Manager > Performance > Network (Ethernet or Wi-Fi)
• Resource Monitor > Network

If those views still show network activity, then the issue is likely limited to how Task Manager displays per-process network usage.

Since you've already:

• Reverted the telemetry optimization
• Restored DusmSvc
• Re-enabled Ndu
• Restarted multiple times

I'm no longer convinced that optimizerDuck is necessarily the cause. It may be a pre-existing Windows issue or something that was triggered by Windows itself, especially since you've experienced a very similar problem before.

I'll continue investigating the log and the related tweaks on my side. Thanks again for reporting this and for helping me track it down.

The issue is that the network column is present but always displays 0 Mbps for every process. So, optimizerDuck actually doesn't cause this issue if I enable everything in the OptimizerDuck privacy section?

So it's been a while, but I finally have an update on this issue. I'm pretty sure optimizerDuck is the trigger. I reset my network settings an still no change. But today, I reset my optimizerDuck settings on the Optimize tab because I wanted to update from version 2.17.4 to 2.21.1.

First, I unchecked all my tweaks in version 2.17.4 and restarted. After the reboot, the Mbps count came back.

Then I installed version 2.21.1 and reapplied the same tweaks as before, plus service isolation. After another restart, the Mbps count disappeared again.

Now I'm sure that optimizerDuck triggers this issue on my system, but I don't know which specific setting triggers it

Update:

I finally tested the tweaks and found out which one caused the issue. It's the 'Disable Background Logging' tweak. I tested it with the latest version, OptimizerDuck v2.25.5 - Hotfix: Startup Crash Fix.

Maybe you can share some information about what that tweak does.
