Is it possible to make the install script use relative path

In the install script it is supposed to pass the absolute path of the clean filter. I tried to make it use relative path but I couldn't. I also searched if relative paths are not supported but i couldn't find anything. Do you know if we can make the path relative to the .git/config file ?
