Ramsay Sedation Scale: Use SNOMED CT instead of LOINC #24

Description

@glichtner

Summary

The data dictionary currently maps the Ramsay Sedation Scale to the LOINC standard concept 1091379. We propose switching it to the SNOMED CT standard concept 4105091.

Current vs. proposed

Concept ID Vocabulary Standard
Current 1091379 LOINC
Proposed 4105091 SNOMED CT

Both concepts are valid OMOP standard concepts.

Rationale

The other sedation/pain/agitation scores in the dictionary (e.g. NRS, VAS, RASS, …) are coded with SNOMED CT. Also, the LOINC concept is mapped to the Observation domain, while the SNOMED CT code (our suggestion) is mapped to Measurement, which makes more sense for the Ramsay Sedation Scale, as OMOP Measurement is for structured numerical or categorical values obtained through a systematic/standardized examination or test (which Ramsay is).

Proposed change

Replace the Ramsay Sedation Scale mapping 1091379 (LOINC) with 4105091 (SNOMED CT).
