Problem

Some subsonic api supported music players has support to ListenBrainz which tracks the music you listened, like the stats that's shown on the app

Integrate the graphs and data with ListenBrainz

Your server might already support this. I think navidrome supports both lastfm and listenbrainz, have a look.

It makes more sense for this to be managed on the server really so any apps just push playback scrobbles to the server and the server decides where to send that on to or to just keep it locally.

I disagree. The listen history should match what it has on substreamer, and also fetch/push the playcount as well(I remember feishin having playcounts)

The listen history on substreamer is built entirely locally on substreamer based on your listening history on substreamer.

The subsonic API provides no way for me to retrieve track level playback history from the server so it’s actually impossible for me to keep them in sync.

I’d suggest opening a feature request with navidrome or the open subsonic project to provide an api extension for fetching track level playback history. This is the right solution to the problem.

Then I would not have to manage a local play history at all and it would make my life simpler AND make sure the listening stats in substreamer and everywhere else are in sync.

Your server is the hub that everything talks to so it’s the place it needs to be.
