I'm drawn to systems that have to be powerful, elegant, and well-behaved...platforms where uptime, integrity, confidentiality, recoverability, and human comprehension all matter equally.
Good enginnering is observable, defensible, boring in the right places, and built so that future operators can reason about it. Small decisions accumulate: a clear metric name, a safer default, a better runbook, a more explicit boundary, a more humane alert, a better permission model.
Those details are the work...and they continue to apportion themselves throughout all time.
