I think adding an option for detecting cpu write to frame buffer would be a good solution.

I think our whole frame buffer needs to be redone, but my knowledge of how all that works and best way to emulate that is minimal. Will try and get some research into it.

I actually think Rice's fb code is decent. It just needs some optimizations. For this particular issue, the detection just needs to be tweaked. Currently, it will read the cfb if the game starts w/o ever calling ProcessDList. The problem with GB Tower is that since the regular game uses Dlists, dlist count won't be 0. So I was thinking of maybe adding code to check if the dlist count hasn't changed. Might be good to have it as an option in case the detection method isn't perfect.

Off topic a little, but how come you disabled the ability to read frame buffer, for frame buffer read emulation? I think it's better than nothing, to at least have it exist.

A similar problem is that show_cfb doesn't work properly. In Pokemon Puzzle League, the beginning is not using a Dlist, and the show_cfb detection code is located in ProcessDList. Adding detection in UpdateScreen is probably necessary. Not sure if that entirely fixes it though ;/ .

ahhhhh i probably stripped out more stuff then i should of to be honest,I got pretty gung ho with stripping out some bits of code a few months back.
Ahhhhh interesting about the DLists = 0, I will took a look into how a few others video plugins to see what the correct way to detect CPU writes to the frame buffer are and also a look into show_cfb.

I think I figured out a decent but hacky solution. Basically the idea is to check if there was a dlist within the past few frames and if there wasn't, then forcefully draw the framebuffer.

For some reason, relying on showCFB wasn't good enough for Pokemon Puzzle League. I had to delay it by a frame or two, in order to get the intro screen working in Pokemon Puzzle League.
