Where to start for using Git and Github

Something that covers everything from downloading git, using both GUI and command line, and how to maintain a good repo would be nice!

Might be good to add some information on commonly encountered issues when using git (merge conflicts, detached head state, etc.) that can be confusing to newcomers. I would add these updates to the current document myself but, frankly, this is stuff that still confuses me when I run into it (and so I feel underqualified for the task).
