I have seen .o and .so files stuck under ‘lib’, when I use my Gentoo ebuilds. This is, presumably, where OI looks for the shared libraries. But those libraries should probably go under lib64, on my system, in case I had a 32-bit installation of OI, as well. How the build system lays out the file structure should be looked into.
