Does my source device need to be rooted?

When I enter adb root I get abdb cannot run as root in protection builds . I'm pretty new to all of this but I suspected it had something to do with my device not being rooted, and upon further googling I'm guessing that's it, but I'm not sure.

I am facing a similar issue.

Turns out that was the problem. If you root your device you should be fine, but I recommend backing up your files, as rooting requires unlocking the bootloader, and that process factory resets the phone.

I am using it as parallel app on OnePlus and am not even able to switch. Is bluestack rooted ?

I used this tool to root bluestack and proceed with the instructions from there.
