Button participate or interest

Adding a participate button helps the event creator to know that there are participants in his event.
We currently have a follow and like button only.

What is the difference between participate and follow in this context?

Another solution is change names like this:

• Follow becomes Participate, meaning will assist and be actively engaged.
• Like becomes Interested, meaning the user likes the event but not sure if assist

What do you think about it?

• the like button remains so that users can like it if they find it good or imagine it.
• the follow button remains so that people can follow if there are any changes on the events and can see it in his profile.
• the participate button will be for real participants of the event.
