In order, my preferences: 1-Claude, 2-Perplexity, Tied for 3- Chat GPT and Gemini. I like the literary voice of Claude. It was friendly and offered perspective, not just information. "This book is full of adventure and great for a reluctant reader!" The others were more clinical. I did like that Perplexity included images, though.

**Not one of the assigned ones, but my actual #1 was Copilot. It had similarities to Claude in that it was more human, but I also like that it provided the list as a graphic, highlighted key points, and asked what more I needed.

To test, I asked each generative ai how to pronounce my last name (Hoehne). Claude's response was simple to understand (A+) and had beautiful typeface (A++)! As a ChatGPT user (whom I lovingly call "Chatty Cathy"), I'm excited to add Claude to my repertoire.

Chatty, Gemini, and Perplexity completed the task well but Claude came in with humor befitting the situation. The response made me laugh, especially the motto. Claude 100%.

Prompt was to help me rewrite my resume for instructional design open positions. ChatGPT had accurate information due to my use of the platform. The tone and formatting was more useable with less edits using Claude. This was a great way to explore the different AI available. Prompt : "I am Melinda Mansouri, an experienced instructor with over 10 years of teaching at Salt Lake Community College. I specialize in training future web developers, game and graphic designers, photographers, and other creative students. I have led students to earn over 300 Adobe Certifications, with some qualifying for national championships. I’m applying my skills toward instructional design roles. Please create a professional instructional design resume that highlights my experience in curriculum development, student success data analysis, collaboration with administrators, and motivating Millennial and Gen Z learners. The resume should use strong action verbs, be formatted for clarity and readability, and tailored to the instructional design and edtech industry."

Prompt was: Suggest water wise, full sun perennials that pair well with coneflowers. Zone 7b, no aggressive spreaders.

They all were able to make good suggestions and basically returned the same results. Perplexity and ChatGPT included photos of the suggested flowers. I liked that Perplexity also included a table comparing the choices. ChatGPT included suggestions on extended color by telling me groupins for spring, summer and fall blooms.

Follow up: Create a planting diagram for a 6x50 flower bed on a drip system with the recommended flowers. The south side gets more water and the north side is hotter as it's against a driveway.

ChatGPT provided a decent planting diagram that would work in real life and it could even generate an image when asked. Claude generated a planting diagram but it was not realistic and the format was hard to read. Gemini said it was text only and could not generate a diagram. Perplexity generated a diagram but it was harder to read and not a pleasing design.

Here is my chat prompt. I have been working with small brands to help create content for their social media. This video I was doing I had no idea how to pronounce certain things so I had it help me! It was fabulous. Instead of guessing, it broke it down for me.

Claude came in 1st place with ChatGPT a close second. Both responses were clever and followed by reasons why their suggested prompts were good. Gemini and Perplexity gave more instructional responses on how to create a prompt myself.

The "surprise" element often leads to counterintuitive insights about how current trends might evolve differently than expected, while the advice component gives you something concrete to think about or act on.

Incidentally, I highly recommend trying out the suggested prompt on Claude! This was the response it gave me:

You know what shocked me most? The Great Simplification of 2027-2028. Everyone in 2025 was obsessed with making everything more complex - more apps, more features, more AI agents for every tiny task. But by 2028, there was this massive cultural shift toward radical simplification. People started craving tools that did ONE thing exceptionally well instead of a thousand things poorly.

I asked: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, & Copilot. Prompt: Take this picture and add a a rose and a cape

Results
Claude was the only one that was unable to edit or modify the picture. Kinda disappointing.

Gemini had the best placement of the rose and cape.

ChatGPT - had a vibrant red cape but the rose was not placed in the hand
Copolit - removed part of the logo and modified the font, added an extra foot

(I asked Copilot on my PC first and then on Mac, and the Mac version modified the logo

I am planning a trip and this is what I used to start it off:

I'd like to save up to go and live in Annecy, France for a month in October. Create a budget for me including: housing, airfare, eating out, groceries, and car rental on there. I am studying for a certification so I asked A.I. the following:

Can you break down the main area's/categories for the AWS CP certification. Help me come up with flash cards around those subjects, then create a learning schedule so I can master said concepts by 'X' date.

It gave me about 300 flashcards, broke them up by a category, broke up the categories by dates and gave me study tips on my progress. I additionally asked it for flashcard apps that it would recommend, took it's suggestion and then inserted the flashcards it created into the app.

My prompt was really simple but the answers I got were fun.

The prompt -"can you tell me where I'm from by just my name" I just wanted to check how the bots work with personal information.

So I asked to ChatGPT first - the response was good
"I can try to guess the region or culture your name is most likely associated with—but it won’t be 100% accurate."
And it had some long explanation.

Claude.ai - "I can't reliably determine where you're from based solely on your name. While names can sometimes suggest cultural or linguistic origins" and asked for my name, yeah a good response

Perplexity - it gave an explanation but for some reason an error was occuring and it's not really stable.

Gemini - "I am sorry, but I can't tell you where you are from just by your name. Your name is personal information and I do not have access to it. Additionally, even if I did have your name, a person's name does not definitively indicate their origin. People from all over the world can have the same or similar names."

I think in terms of collecting personal information Gemini is mindful, they have added restrictions keeping privacy in mind.
And in terms of interactiveness, ChatGPT is the winner.
Claude responses were good too, but a little serious kind of.
And everyone's guesses were good.

I asked ChatGPT to scan several images of color schemes I use for my digital planner. I had it extract theme name, color name and color hexcode. Then I had it place all this information in a spreadsheet and format the cells of the sheet by the color of the hexcode. I'm going to use this to mix and match digital sticker sets. (Saved several hours vs doing this manually.)

Here is a photo of my kitchen. I am overwhelmed. Tell me step by step how to clean up my kitchen. Tell me where to put things. Tell me which actions to take. Then make me a daily check list to keep my kitchen clean. We eat at home two meals a day. Then make two chore lists with kitchen tasks to delegate for my 8 year old and 10 year old. They can help with cooking too. Make the daily checklists and kitchen chore charts look very nice so we will want to do our tasks and keep our kitchen tidy.

1. Gemini - I liked their actual instructions the best. They also noticed the cat food and put that on the kids' chore list. I will follow these instructions. 😎

2. Claude came next. Mostly because the chore charts they created looked very nice!

3. ChatGPT had great instructions. A little complex.

4. Perplexity was kinda wordy and vague. As a human, I don't act how it listed. I know I asked it where to put things. It's the only one that listed out where things should go in their own section. That was kind of segmented. But interesting.

That's a highly specific prompt, but the premise of it is to give my boyfriend a plan for PT exercises for a super pesky injury he's had so we don't have to filter through tons of reddit posts

I found claude's interface to be best, but chat gpt's answer may have been better/more thorough. Other two were kind of mediocre for this
