Tape jamming and burning out SG90 motors

One issue I've been having is SG90 motors burning out when tape gets bunched up and jammed. Usually when this happens the tape ends up going around the larger top gear. I'm not sure of the best way to prevent this from happening.

I am using a M8 nut that I attach to the film on the output to avoid that. It gives a bit of tension on the film exit.
