How to open compare instead of merge?

When I select two files or folders in VS Code and choose Compare, it opens Beyond Compare in merge mode. Is there a way to force it to open in compare mode instead?

When executing with 2 parameters, it should be launching into the Compare view. If presented with 3 or 4 selected item, it would open in the Merge.

Could we get a screenshot for which "compare" command in VCCode you are using to launch and what you have selected (in which VS Code tab). We have a few different context menus and toolbar buttons; I'd like to verify where in exactly in VS Code you are selecting and executing the "compare".
