Hi! First of all, thank you for this mod. The spider mechanic is genuinely awesome, and the custom spider web block looks fantastic. It adds a much more interesting and creepy atmosphere than vanilla cobwebs.
I wanted to share a feature idea for the spider web block, because I feel like it has a lot of potential beyond its current use.
Would you consider adding an optional config setting to replace vanilla minecraft:cobweb generation/placement with the Web mod’s spider web block? Something like:
- replace vanilla cobwebs: true/false
Visually, your web block looks much more interesting than the vanilla cobweb, and I think it could work really well in caves, forests, dungeons, abandoned structures, spider nests, and overgrown structures.
I noticed the block already has a hanging/ceiling-style state, which is really cool. My suggestion is more about expanding the other placement variants, especially the ground-style web and possible wall-attached webs.
Right now, the web has a very strong shape and it can extend outside the normal bounds of a vanilla block. Personally, I actually think that is a good thing and part of what makes it look unique. It feels more like a real web structure instead of just a flat transparent cube. I would love to see that idea pushed further, while still making the block attach more naturally to nearby surfaces.
For example, it would be really cool if the spider web block could use placement context a bit like stairs/slabs:
- keep the current hanging state for underside placement
- keep or improve the current ground-style web for top-face placement
- add wall-attached variants for side-face placement
- rotate the web based on the clicked face and player direction
- possibly use different visual variants depending on the surface it is attached to
So instead of every placed web looking like the same shape in the same orientation, the web could feel like it naturally “sticks” to the surface it was placed on.
Another idea: connected web shapes/textures. If multiple spider web blocks are placed next to each other, they could visually connect into a larger web structure. For example:
- a 2x2 group could become one bigger connected web
- larger groups like 3x3 or 6x6 could form a larger web/net pattern
- connected webs could make caves, forests, and spider nests look much more organic
This could make the block feel less like separate repeated models and more like one large web spreading across the area.
Again, this is just a suggestion. The mod is already great, and the web block is one of the coolest parts of it visually. I just think it has enough potential to become a full alternative to vanilla cobwebs if it had more placement states, connected visuals, and an optional vanilla cobweb replacement config.
I apologize for using AI to demonstrate the idea. I couldn't think of any other way to visualize it :(
