Publishing: Improve publishing flow #101

The current publishing flow has a bunch of cumbersome elements and there might be a better option.
Describe the solution you'd like
Sonatype have their own Maven plugins for publishing to their repos nowadays.

We might want to look into changing our process to use their (possibly) better supported flow/tooling in the future.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Not make any changes.
Additional context
This is not an urgent piece of work, could well wait until the next planned release of the provider.
