Version 1.0 — 18 October 2026
Thank you for your interest in contributing to ECpdfSign (the "Project"), maintained by Matthis (GitHub: @Matthis, the "Maintainer").
This Contributor License Agreement ("Agreement") makes clear which rights you grant for your Contributions. You keep the copyright in your Contributions. You only grant the Maintainer a broad license to use them.
Why this agreement exists: ECpdfSign is published under the GNU General Public License v3.0. The Maintainer also wants to be able to offer the Project under other licenses, including commercial and proprietary licenses (dual licensing). Without this Agreement, every contributor would have to agree again each time. By signing, you allow the Maintainer to do this with your Contributions as well.
- "You" means the individual who submits a Contribution and accepts this Agreement.
- "Contribution" means any work of authorship, including source code, documentation, images, tests and translations, that You intentionally submit to the Project, for example through a pull request, a patch or an issue. Comments in a discussion are not Contributions unless they contain such a work that You submit for inclusion.
- "Submit" means any form of communication sent to the Project, in particular through the Project's GitHub repository.
You grant the Maintainer and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, free of charge, royalty-free and irrevocable license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, distribute and make available Your Contributions and such derivative works, in any form and by any known or future means.
This includes in particular the right to sublicense and relicense Your Contributions under any license terms, including open source licenses other than the GPL and commercial or proprietary licenses, and the right to transfer this license.
You grant the Maintainer and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, free of charge, royalty-free and irrevocable patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import and otherwise transfer Your Contributions, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by You that are necessarily infringed by Your Contribution alone or by combining Your Contribution with the Project.
You represent that:
- Each Contribution is Your original creation, or You otherwise have the right to submit it under this Agreement.
- If Your employer or another party has rights in Your Contributions (for example through an employment contract), You have received permission to make the Contributions on its behalf, or that party has waived such rights.
- You will identify any part of a Contribution that is not Your original creation, including third-party code and its license, and code generated with AI tools whose terms restrict how the output may be licensed.
- To Your knowledge, Your Contribution does not violate any third party's rights.
The Maintainer is not obliged to accept or use Your Contributions. Unless You and the Maintainer agree otherwise in writing, Contributions are provided "as is", without warranties or conditions of any kind, and You are not expected to provide support for them.
The Maintainer intends to keep crediting contributors, for example through the Git history. Any version of the Project that has been published under the GNU General Public License remains available under that license; this Agreement does not change that.
Where the law does not allow You to waive moral rights (Urheberpersönlichkeitsrechte), You agree not to assert them against the Maintainer's exercise of the rights granted in this Agreement, as far as legally permitted.
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If any provision of this Agreement is invalid, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
On your first pull request, the CLA Assistant bot posts a comment. You accept this Agreement by replying in the pull request with exactly this sentence:
I have read the CLA Document and I hereby sign the CLA
Your GitHub username, the pull request and the date of acceptance are stored in
signatures/cla.json in this repository. You only need to sign once; the
Agreement applies to all of Your future Contributions to the Project.
