Description

First of all thank you for this project. I have been using this hyprland setup for a year and I love it.

I updated my OS from 24.04 to 26.04. I tried to download the new LinuxBeginnings/Ubuntu-Hyprland but it just won't work. I tried many many things, removing files, packages, configs, install, re-install, there is no way.
I only post what I think is most relevant. Let me know if I am missing something obvious or you need more specifics.

When it finishes it just tells some packages could not be installed, hyprland hyprlock, hypridle among them.

The first error I find is:

[ERROR] liblz4-dev failed to install. Please check the install.log. You may need to install it manually. Sorry, I have tried :(

packages seem to be installed:

I found I could run this script directly ./install-scripts/hyprland-ppa-enable.sh , but it fails this way:

I have not found how to install from package. Installing from ppa works but I think it installs an older release:

./install-scripts/hyprland-ppa.sh

• hyprland 0.55.4-1ppa6~1resolute

I tried branch 26.04 and 26.04-development with similar results. Also running the curl auto-install.sh fails because of a typo:
fatal: Remote branch 26.04-devlopment not found in upstream origin

I wonder if something went wrong upgrading my Ubuntu to 26.04. Plain gnome desktop works but it is driving me crazy because I keep trying the hyprland shortcuts.

What can I do ? Thanks

Re: hyprland 0.55.4-1ppa6~1resolute that is the current version from the PPA, just release a few hours ago to resolve and issue that prevent HL from starting

After you added the PPA did you do a sudo apt update ?

What happens when you try to run Hyprland ?

Yes, after adding the PPA I type sudo apt update and I can install hyprland from PPA. But the install.sh script fails this way:

First of all, thank you for maintaining this project.

I was able to complete the installation successfully on Ubuntu 26.04 after resolving several dependency and version compatibility issues manually. Hyprland is now fully operational with NVIDIA acceleration, hyprlock, hypridle, and hyprland-guiutils.

The following report documents the issues encountered, their root causes, the manual fixes applied, and a few suggestions that may improve compatibility for future Ubuntu 26 users.

Pre-installation Dependencies

Before running install.sh, I installed the required development packages to avoid missing headers and pkg-config failures during compilation.

Issues Encountered

1. Missing Development Headers

Initial configuration failed because the following pkg-config modules were unavailable:

libjpeg
libwebp
librsvg-2.0

Installing

sudo apt install \
libjpeg-dev \
libwebp-dev \
librsvg2-dev

resolved the issue.

2. False Package Installation Errors

The installer reported

[ERROR] liblz4-dev failed to install
[ERROR] libwayland-dev failed to install

However, verification using

dpkg -s liblz4-dev
dpkg -s libwayland-dev

confirmed both packages were already installed successfully.

This appears to be an installer validation issue rather than an actual installation failure.

3. Incorrect wayland.xml Detection

The installer attempted to rebuild wayland-protocols because it reported

wayland.xml not found

However,

find /usr /usr/local -name wayland.xml

returned

/usr/share/wayland/wayland.xml
/usr/share/qt6/wayland/protocols/wayland/wayland.xml

The file already exists on Ubuntu 26.04.

4. hyprgraphics Compilation Failure

Compilation stopped because

hyprutils/memory/Casts.hpp

could not be found.

This occurred because the system version of hyprutils was older than the version expected by the current hyprgraphics.

Rebuilding hyprutils before hyprgraphics resolved the problem.

5. hyprlock Compilation Failure

Compilation failed with

cannot convert
Hyprutils::Memory::CSharedPointer<CCWlSeat>
to bool

This was caused by newer versions of hyprutils changing the smart pointer API (operator bool() became explicit), while the hyprlock source expected the previous behavior.

Updating hyprlock to a compatible revision resolved the build failure.

6. hypridle Compilation Failure

The build stopped because

Package 'hyprland-protocols' not found

Building and installing hyprland-protocols before compiling hypridle resolved the issue.

7. hyprland-guiutils Installation

After completing the base installation, I also built and installed hyprland-guiutils.

Initially, the CMake configuration failed because the following dependency was missing:

hyprtoolkit >= 0.4.0

After installing that dependency, additional missing libraries were reported:

aquamarine >= 0.10.0
iniparser
absl_flat_hash_map

To successfully build hyprland-guiutils, I first ensured that the following HyprWM libraries were available and up to date:

• hyprutils
• hyprlang
• hyprtoolkit
• hyprgraphics
• aquamarine

I also installed the required Ubuntu development packages:

After satisfying the dependencies, the installation completed successfully using the standard CMake workflow:

This utility depends on a newer HyprWM ecosystem than the installer currently prepares automatically.

8. Library Version Synchronization

One recurring issue was mixing release-tag components with newer HyprWM libraries.

The installation became stable only after rebuilding the ecosystem in dependency order while installing everything into /usr/local.

The following order worked consistently:

↓

↓

Each project was configured using

-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/local

followed by

sudo ldconfig

after installation.

This ensured the locally installed libraries were preferred over older system versions.

9. swww Warning

The installer reports

swww (not found in PATH)

although the installed configuration uses hyprpaper.

The warning appears to be a legacy validation check and may be confusing for users who are not using swww.

10. Ubuntu 26 Qt/Kvantum Packages

Ubuntu 26 no longer provides

qt5-style-kvantum-themes
qt6-style-kvantum-themes

The available packages are

qt-style-kvantum-themes
qt5-style-kvantum
qt6-style-kvantum

Updating the installer package map would eliminate these warnings.

Suggestions

Based on this installation, I believe the installer could be made more robust by:

• Installing all required development packages before starting any source builds.
• Building the HyprWM libraries in dependency order.
• Consistently using -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH=/usr/local.
• Running sudo ldconfig after every manual installation.
• Updating Ubuntu 26 package mappings.
• Improving wayland.xml detection.
• Validating installed packages using pkg-config or dpkg rather than relying solely on installer status messages.
• Detecting the selected wallpaper backend before warning about swww.
• Adding dependency checks for hyprtoolkit, aquamarine, hyprgraphics, and other required libraries before attempting to build hyprland-guiutils.

Final Result

After applying the above fixes, the installation completed successfully.

Current working environment:

• ✅ Wayland session stable on Ubuntu 26.04

Overall, the installer is functional, but a few dependency checks, package mappings, and build-order improvements would significantly improve the installation experience on Ubuntu 26.04. I hope these findings help improve compatibility for future users.
