Support for v3.1.x

I have a Tasmota based smart plug and Tasmota only supports v3.1.x protocol, is v3 supported by mqtt-lib or only version v5?

For now, only v5.
v3.1.x implementation is down down the priority list. It may come sooner if there is demand, but I don't expect a lot of people to use this. You see, I don't really advertise my stuff, so I also don't expect many users...haha

By demand, I actually mean, "people to test it". You see, testing is what takes up most of my time now, so, I guess I should start advertising this eventually.

What is your use case?

Me I want to connect to a device which only supports v3.1.x so using your broker wasn't an option. As an FYI, see this[1] for some people's feelings about v5 :)

I see, people do have feelings about it. Doesn't affect me, I guess....hehe. I have no feelings towards it. The choice of the initial protocol was based on "v5 is the latest and most complete"....very naive, but practical.
I can work on v3... support. Give a couple of weeks to get started.

Based on the opinion expressed by Tasmota people, if you'd like to have this to useful to others it seems you have no choice, but to implement v3. But if this is for your own education then definitely do your own thing :)

My personal opinion is if MQTT is something you're passionate about, I'd suggest making your client code no_std and coming up with a replacement for Tasmota, my two cents!
