The GSF Patterns working group reviewed two open pull requests and progressed the ongoing catalogue recategorisation effort. The group agreed to merge a set of nine AI-focused patterns following completed subject-matter-expert review, and agreed a follow-up process for a pending power-optimisation pattern. Discussion also focused on establishing clearer criteria for pattern quality and scope to guide future catalogue consolidation decisions.

Key Discussions

• Pattern PR reviews: The group discussed the status of two pending pull requests — one covering nine AI-related patterns, and one focused on power optimisation. The nine AI patterns have been through multiple rounds of subject-matter-expert feedback and were approved for merge. The power-optimisation pattern will go through one final review window with the Green AI Committee before proceeding.
• Catalogue consolidation: The group examined a previously-flagged pattern ("use a service mesh only if needed") to test whether it should be deleted, revised, or retained. The discussion revealed the group does not yet have agreed, explicit criteria for pattern scope and quality, which is needed to make consistent decisions across the wider backlog.
• Community engagement: Aviva team members shared early progress on integrating green software patterns into their software development lifecycle, including initial testing with GitHub Copilot to identify pattern compliance in code, with encouraging early results.
