The current DeFlock website interface and landing page counters are very USA centric. The landing page exclusively pulls the US specific count and this leads some international privacy advocates (primarily based in the UK) to believe the platform does not have this capability in their respective geographies. The backend OpenStreetMap data that supports this allows any node to be globally pinned, however on the frontend this seems poorly implemented and acts to alienate any non US based community that may be tempted to get involved.
Proposed Solutions:
- Global/Country selector on the main dashboard map or an "International View" toggle button.
- Update landing page counter from USA centric, to "Global" or provide a breakdown, e.g "CamerasMapped: US / UK / World".
- Tailor "flock" specific ANPR terminology to better suit UK's preferredANPR hardware andvendor names.
Impact of This Proposal The UK has the one of the highest vehicle security camera densities globally, and automated, or ANPR cameras are spreading globally year after year; this implementation will make it far easier to ingestThis crucial data early.
How can I help: I would be more than willing to provide camera location data (UK based) if it was beneficial to develop on this more international view, or to test any international mobile UI I might require.
