Retooter uses the Mastodon.py package. As far as I understand, the only way to query for mentions is to use the Mastodon.notifications() ‘endpoint’, which is what retooter uses
However, if a user manually clears the notifications (e.g., via web page or apps), retooter might not receive them (if they are simply marked as ‘read’, I think they should still be available, if they are cleared/deleted, then not)
Not sure whether there is any viable workaround. The issue is also not very likely to happen, as the bot runs every ~15 min (this value can be lowered to as short as 5 min if I remember correctly)
