Black screen Xquartz issue after upgrade to MacOS Tahoe v 26.2 with recommended workaround

After upgrading MacOS to Tahoe, Manish Soni (UNC) reported that VERDI display is covered by a black screen.

The workaround is to use the minimize button in the upper left corner to minimize the VERDI application, and then double-click on the XQuartz dock to show applications that have been docked.
Then hover and click on VERDI to activate the re-display of VERDI. After doing the re-display, VERDI works without having issues with black screens.

This issue is reported on the XQuartz github and also many other applications that require XQuartz to display.

Users may also need to make the following modifications according to Kiran Alapaty
macOS Tahoe 26.3 (latest version)
Xquartz version 2.8.5 (latest version)
VERDI 2.2 (latest version)

1. If VERDI has a screen background is black with faint gray text which is super hard to see.
2. Add this to the existing JAVA_OPTS environment variable in the verdi.command script: "-Dsun.java2d.opengl=false -Dsun.java2d.xrender=false”
3. Then launched VERDI. (And it showed a black screen with no text)
4. Then, minimize VERDI black screen and then re-draw VERDI by selecting it from the dock, as per the instructions above.
5. VERDI should be visible now.
