[Feature] tarball or Appimage packaging for GNU/Linux?

Hi! Thank you very much for your hard work! I was wondering if you could release tarball or Appimage packaging for Linux platform so that AstrBot-desktop could fit more workflow situations. Much appreciated!

Flatpak is a nice choice too. You can also publish AstrBot Desktop on https://flathub.org for more exposure. Many linux users download apps from there.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’re looking into better Linux distribution options beyond the current .deb / .rpm packages.

We did try AppImage before, but paused publishing it officially because portability was not as reliable as expected for a Tauri/WebKitGTK app. The result can depend on the build baseline and the user’s system, including:

• glibc versions
• FUSE availability
• WebKitGTK / GTK runtime behavior
• Wayland / X11 differences

We don’t want to ship something that looks universal but fails unpredictably on some machines.

A tarball is simpler, but it also leaves dependency handling and desktop integration to the user. Flatpak / Flathub is probably the better long-term cross-distro option, but it requires more packaging, sandbox, metadata, and maintenance work.

So this is on our radar, and we’re discussing which path gives users the best balance of convenience and reliability.

I'm running Fedora Workstation 44 and funny thing, I just unzipped your rpm package and placed the files somewhere else other than /usr/ and it worked without any problem. Maybe it's just because Fedora has the correct dependency. I was wondering perhaps you could somehow carry all the libs Astrbot needs in Appimage and tarball releasing. Idk if that solves the problem. Flatpak is certainly a good solution for this. Thanks again and good luck!
