If you go up to an NPC with restraints, you're given the option to "Help with restraints." This option goes away once the NPC owns the PC.

In my opinion, the player helping their owner should also increase the owner's affection. I think if you're able to help random people out of restraints, you should probably be able to help your owner if you're trying to be nice.
