libpetsc.so (from /g/data/vk83/.../petsc-3.21.1...) was built against MPI-enabled HDF5, but at runtime it’s finding an HDF5 that doesn’t have the MPI I/O symbol:

because pyISSM relies on its own hdf5 dependency to import netCDF4, and ACCESS-ISSM also has its own IssmConfig_python, loads PETSc: libpetsc.so.3.21, that PETSc was built against parallel/MPI HDF5 (it expects the HDF5 MPI-IO symbol H5Pset_dxpl_mpio) . but when the kernel imports it, the dynamic loader ends up using an HDF5 without MPI-IO (which is a serial HDF5 that pyISSM is installed with in the conda environment)
